I finished reading The Help over the holiday weekend. I was able to get through it pretty fast since I was traveling and there really is no better place to read than the airport and when you’re on a plane.
I loved this book. It took me back to a place and a time that I only know about from history books. I could not imagine growing up in Jackson, Mississippi in the 60s where racism was still going strong. All I could do was shake my head in shock with the way people use to think back then. Separate bathrooms for different races, separate drinking fountains, separate neighborhoods…the inequality of it all is just so sad.
The author did a great job in portraying all the different characters. Each characters’ story was so interesting I didn’t want to put the book down. I can’t wait to see the movie now!
