I know Britney Spears’ new music video for “Hold It Against Me” came out like two weeks ago and I’m just now posting it on my blog… but I really needed time to think about it and analyze it. I analyze every move Britney makes…so to me this wasn’t just a music video I could say “She looks great. Awesome.” and move on with my life. I needed to really break it down.

Let’s start off with everything I loved about this video: She looks great. They did a really awesome job with her hair and makeup. I love the shots of her in the beginning and when she’s surrounded by the mics. So pretty! I think the concept of the video was pretty cool. I liked the images of her past videos playing in the background. It makes you reflect how long she’s been around and all the amazing videos she’s done throughout her career. The battling of the two Britneys is awesome too because I feel they were trying to show how there are two sides to Britney. The pop star Britney and the Britney who desperately just wants to be a nobody. And I think emotionally she fights with herself on what the two different sides want in life.

Now for the cons of the video… I didn’t walk away from this video thinking “Wow! That was amazing!!!” To me it was just okay. Her forehead looked larger than usual in every shot and there was absolutely no fire in her eyes. There was no excitement and no passion…she was just there…lip syncing the song and doing the movements she was told to do. How can you get excited for a music video when clearly the artist herself isn’t excited about it? Also the editor cut away too fast and too often. You can never really grasp each moment because they flash before your eyes before you can even take it in. Right when I was about to appreciate the dancing, it would flash to her in the white dress. And back and forth and back and forth, throughout the whole thing. I think Brian Friedman did an AMAZING job choreographing this and probably had an amazing vision…but all of that was lost by how many cut-aways the editor made. I wish they would come out with a directors cut of this video with just the shots of the dancing. Clearly Britney isn’t up to par and her dancing skills are very weak but if we saw the vision as a whole…how Brian Friedman intended it…I might appreciate it more.

It’s weird. You can see the cruelest part of the world, but then on the other side you see the most beautiful part and it’s like you go from one extreme to the next. And they’re both worth it because you couldn’t see one without the other. But that cruel part is damn cruel, and you’ll never forget it. But heaven…it’s heaven. I’ve been to both places.

Review on BSpears New Video

Okay…so here’s a 30 second preview of Britney Spears’ new music video. I’m worried…. the shots that I see here show her looking lost in the eyes, not cute with the bright red lipstick, and her dancing does not look not up to par.

I will, of course, wait until I see the finished video being released tomorrow before I can fully judge. Her fans expect greatness…and when her management hypes her music up so much…they expect to receive greatness. If we don’t get it…we will be disappointed.
