Taylor Swift’s ‘Red’ Sells Above and Beyond!

Taylor Swift’s ‘Red’ Sells 1.21 Million — Biggest Sales Week for an Album Since 2002

It’s official: Taylor Swift’s “Red” sold a whopping 1.208 million copies last week in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. That’s more than any album has sold in a single week since 2002, when Eminem’s “The Eminem Show” sold 1.322 million in its first full week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

“Red” also easily debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, scoring Swift her third chart-topper.

“Red” is only the 18th album to sell a million units in a single week since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991. Its start ranks as the eighth-biggest sales week in that span of time. The SoundScan-era record week is held by NSync’s “No Strings Attached,” when it debuted at No. 1 with 2.416 million in 2000.

Swift’s sizzling start is also the second-largest sales frame for a female artist. Only Britney Spears had a bigger week, when “Oops! … I Did It Again” sold 1.319 million in its debut in 2000.

As we projected last week, the blockbuster set marks the first album to move a million copies in a week since May of 2011, when Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” blasted in with 1.108 million in its No. 1 debut. However, “Red’s” number is a bit bigger than the 1.100 million that had been forecasted by industry sources.

Red” also makes Swift the only woman to have two million-selling weeks since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991. The country/pop star earlier earned a million week when her last studio release, 2010’s “Speak Now,” launched with 1.047 million.

My Thoughts on ‘Red’

Songs I’m really really really passionate about from Taylor’s new album:

1.) Begin Again – when I heard this song it was like love at first listen. It’s her newest single and I’m praying it gets a lot of radio play. It’s difficult because it’s slow so I feel only country radio will play it but maybe..just maybe…top 40 radio will catch on. It’s so lyrically beautiful and you can just picture every moment she sings about like you’re right there. “Walked in thinking you’d be late but you got here early and you stand and wave, I walk to you.” I mean..can’t you just SEE it?!?!

2.) Come Back…Be Here – It’s really surprising this song is a bonus track because it should be on the main album. And I don’t just love this song because it’s pretty much the story of my life at the moment…but it’s just SO good. When the bridge comes in and she sings “New York be here…but you’re in London and I break down cause it’s not fair that you’re not around!!” I just throw my arms up in the air and sing along with her. It’s that good.

3.) All Too Well – Her song to Jake Gyllenhaal. She said there was so much she wanted to say in this song, it originally was 10 minutes long so she had to cut it down. The lyrics…once again…are perfect. “So here we are again in the middle of the night, we dance around the kitchen in the refrigerator light.” I’ve never even thought about dancing in the kitchen with my boyfriend to the refrigerator light but Taylor makes me want to do this ASAP. It sounds that romantic.

4.) The Moment I Knew – ANOTHER bonus track that should be on the main album. This is her other song to Jake that explains how she felt on her 21st birthday when she was hoping Jake would show up at her party but he never did. That was the moment she knew it was over and he just wasn’t good for her. Even though the song is completely about her own personal experience I feel every girl can relate to a moment like this in their life. When you’ve been dressed up and completely excited to see your crush and something goes wrong and your expectations are shot down… worst feeling ever.

5.) 22 – I know I said when I first listened to this that I wasn’t a fan but I’ve listened to it many more times since and I completely love it now! It’s just really catchy. Even if the lyrics are a tad stupid, it’s a fun song.

6.) Red – Should be her third single I think. Love this song!!

Red Concert Is Coming To LA

Taylor Swift’s Red Tour will hit Los Angeles on August 19th and 20th. Omg how am I going to go almost a year without seeing her live??? So far. So far.

Taylor Swift’s Bonus Track

“There’s a song I wrote with Dan Wilson called ‘Come Back… Be Here,’ which I wrote about falling for someone and then they have to go away for work,” she tells Yahoo! “They’re traveling, you’re traveling, and you’re thinking about them, but you’re wondering how it’s gonna work when there’s so much distance between you.”

Taylor Swift’s “Red” To Sell 1 Million In It’s First Week

“Taylor Swift is poised to become the first female artist in the Nielsen SoundScan era (1991 to present) to have a pair of albums sell more than a million units in a single week.

According to industry sources, first-day sales for "Red” (Monday, Oct. 22) surpassed 500,000 units, including a record opening day sum at Target, as the mass-merchant scored exclusive rights to the album’s deluxe version which includes three additional songs and three remixes. According to sources, Target shifted more than 160,000 units.“

Though not confirmed, unit sales at the iTunes Music Store appears to have also been record-setting. The digital retailer reportedly accounted for nearly half of all units sold on "Red’s” first day of availability. With that start, “Red” should break the first-week iTunes sales mark, recently set by Mumford & Sons “Babel,” which moved roughly 390,000 units just three weeks ago, according to those in the know. The projected first-day sales of “Red” along with full-week estimates from industry prognosticators point to the set most likely surpassing the 1-million sales mark in its debut frame.

The song ‘All Too Well’ is a song that I wrote, it was the first song I wrote for this record actually and it kept coming back to me because it told a story so well in such a full way. It starts with meeting someone and all the details about that innocent beginning and it follows the story all the way to the bitter end. It’s a real emotional song because it does show you why loss is so painful because it was once good and you can remember it.

Quote

I bought the Deluxe version of Red today. Busy day so I haven’t had time to just sit here, blast every song, and read the lyrics in the booklet. I want to be able to take every song completely in.

But I will soon and I will post my album review!

All that matters is that RED is released today.

My light in the darkness.
