Tess Explains It All

It was my first time I ever really met Taylor was in this video shoot and we didnt have her for very long (but) she’s still so young, when she stepped in front of the camera she just turns into a superstar in the blink of a eye and its really kind of magical to watch. You’re talking to a person, a just very nice and kind person who just would be a friend of yours until she gets in front of the camera or she gets on stage and she scones this larger than life persona that really happens very rarely.

Isn’t it strange how it all happens? All my life I dreamt about the bright lights, big city. You know, they tell you it’s gonna be glamorous and they tell you that you have everything. And no one tells you how it’s gonna be. And they don’t tell you when you’re twirling in front of the mirror as a child what the papers are gonna say about you someday. Cause they don’t tell you they’re building you up just to try and knock you down.

Before I covered ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’, I didn’t know loads about her. When I was listening to the song I realized she’s an incredible lyric writer. I bought her album Red after that and she writes it all herself – I didn’t know that. Some of it’s incredible. I’m definitely a fan.

I think when someone is everywhere, a bit of their integrity is lost in their art. Sometimes you’ve just got to take a second look. She’s great, I’d love to work with her.

The song Holy Ground was a song that I wrote about the feeling I got after years had gone by and I finally appreciated a past relationship for what it was, rather than being bitter about what it didn’t end up being. And I was sitting there thinking about it after I had just seen him, and I was like you know what? That was good. It was good having that in my life.
