Okay so….

it’s official. The boy I’ve been dating for about 3 months is moving to New York on October 30th. Just 12 days away and just like that- gone. I knew this day was coming since our like, second date, but when he told me today he purchased his one way ticket to NY and it was really happening… it was hard to swallow.

I have THE WORST luck when it comes to dating. They either live in a completely different city (99% of the guys I date) or they move across the country shortly after I meet them. Why god why??

I watched the movie ‘Going the Distance’ over the weekend and oh boy…can I relate to this movie or what? The movie stars Drew Barrymore and Justin Long who are trying to make a long distance relationship work.

And well let’s be honest. All my “relationships” for the past 5 years have been long distance. And it is hard work. I’ve dated Sac boy, San Fran boy, Newport boy…the list goes on and on. And all of them…not in my zip code. Long distance relationships are impossible and will never work out. In the beginning everything is happy and fun. You’re satisfied with constantly texting each other all day long…and talking on the phone at the end of the day. Then you plan the next visit and you wait 2 or 3 weeks for him to visit you. In the beginning it totally seems possible. Like ya…this could work. No big deal.

Then after a few months you both start to get too busy…the text messages only come in every few hours instead of every minute. Phone calls become every other day instead of every night…and you feel yourself losing the connection. And on a Friday when you do call them just to talk…you can hear that they’re drunk…out with their friends and your mind races with thoughts of what girls he’s meeting and what he’s doing.

It’s nice that in the end of this movie Justin Long moves to LA from New York while Drew Barrymore lives in SF and that seems SOOOO do-able. Sorry kids…that wouldnt work out either. A 6 hour drive is still too long, a one hour flight gets pricey and an 18 hour balloon ride just isn’t realistic. lol But of course in romanic comedy land… anything is possible.
